High Noon Monday, July 2, 2001,
a dozen intrepid citizens of our fair community gathered together on the steps of the magnificent Chase County Courthouse to embark on a 4B (yeah, as in block!) Saunter throughout the business district to solicit (?) monetary donations for the annual 4th of July Fireworks Display.

Private sponsorships were available at 10-cents a block with an additional dime bonus if the saunterer completed the course in under an hour! Corporate sponsorships were available at twice the money. Our goal was $5.00. With a dozen water stops (and one potty break) in the 4 blocks route (two blocks up and two blocks back), we managed to extort (through various nefarious means) a tidy sum which was summarily donated to the local Fire Department.

The annual saunter continues every summer.
